SIGNBOARDS

I was fascinated by church signboards with their event listings, and had the idea to do my own version. For years, I tried to figure out what form it should take -- photograph? painting? Then finally, facing a deadline for an exhibition in LA, I realized that the piece needed to be an actual signboard. If you do an internet search on the title, America's Joyous Future, you see that it has had its own, crazy impact. In 2001, Los Angeles magazine asked me to do a comment on the millenium, so I decided to imagine a signboard from 2100, Another Century of Progress.
